Access All Areas becomes UK's first Disability Confident Leader from the arts industry

Access All Areas has become the first UK arts organisation to achieve Disability Confident Leader status.

Disability Confident was introduced by the British Government as a replacement to the Two Tick scheme in 2013.

The scheme aims to help employers make the most of the opportunities provided by employing disabled people. It is voluntary and has been developed by employers and disabled people’s representatives.

The Disability Confident scheme has three levels: committed, employer and leader.

Access All Areas is the first UK arts organisation to achieve the Leader level, having had their application verified and certified by disabled employees and beneficiaries.

Over 5,000 employers are signed up to the scheme, with less than 100 achieving Leader status.

Only 13 theatres or theatre companies across the country are currently are part of the scheme, something that Access All Areas is dedicated to changing via their access and disability consultancy

The only other creative organisation in the UK to achieve Leader status is Channel 4, with whom Access All Areas organised an event for casting directors in 2017. See Me On Screen introduced 70 casting directors to the seven learning disabled artists represented by Access All Areas and Simon & How in an industry-first partnership
